Blink-182’s “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” Gets 25th Anniversary Edition With Six Rare Vault Tracks
Blink-182’s landmark album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket is getting a major anniversary revisit today, with Geffen Records releasing a 25th anniversary edition that brings long-hidden material into streaming for the first time.
Originally released on June 12, 2001, the record marked a turning point for blink-182, becoming the first punk rock album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It featured defining early-2000s tracks like “The Rock Show,” “Stay Together for the Kids,” and “First Date,” songs that helped push pop punk firmly into the mainstream.
The new edition expands the original 13-track album with six “vault” songs that were previously scattered across limited CD versions and had never been available together on streaming platforms. For many fans, it is the first chance to hear the full scope of the era in one place, including deep cuts that circulated as hidden tracks in the album’s original physical releases.
The anniversary release also highlights how the album was originally marketed in three different physical configurations tied to its cover symbols: the red airplane, yellow pants, and green jacket. Each version contained exclusive material, a strategy that became a defining part of the album’s legacy among collectors.
Alongside the digital release, a 2-LP vinyl edition is now available for pre-order, with randomly etched side-D artwork that mirrors the original symbol concept, adding a physical surprise element for buyers.
Produced by Jerry Finn, the album captured blink-182 at a moment when their blend of fast-paced punk energy and emotionally direct lyrics resonated widely with a generation coming of age in the early internet era. Its commercial success extended beyond the US, topping charts in Canada and Germany and earning strong critical reassessments in the years since.
More than two decades later, the anniversary edition underscores the album’s lasting cultural footprint, both as a commercial breakthrough and as a defining snapshot of pop punk at its peak.
