Johnny Marr Calls New Album The Age Of Everything His “Most Cathartic” Work Yet

Johnny Marr has announced his fifth solo studio album, The Age Of Everything, due October 2nd via BMG, alongside new single “Spin.”

The former Johnny Marr describes the record as his most emotionally revealing solo work so far, shaped by a sense of release that emerged during the writing process.

Speaking about the album, Marr said: “This is the record that’s been the most cathartic. The title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling. It’s all encompassing, but it's not necessarily a negative statement. There’s a sense of overwhelm in the culture brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also be a sense of possibility.”

Written in London, developed through live shows across the East Coast of North America, and recorded in Manchester, The Age Of Everything reflects a period of movement and momentum for Marr, with ideas shaped on the road and refined in the studio.

The album title emerged early and became a central thread running through the project. While it acknowledges cultural overload and the pace of modern life, Marr frames it less as a warning and more as a reflection of complexity, where pressure and possibility exist at the same time.

The Age Of Everything follows a run of well-received solo releases, including Fever Dreams Pts 1-4 and Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr, continuing a solo career that has delivered five UK Top Ten albums.

The tracklist includes “Spin,” “Beyond The Rain,” “Ophelia,” and “Fire With Fire,” signalling a record that moves between urgency, reflection and experimentation.

With “Spin” now released, the album begins its rollout with a sense of momentum, but Marr’s own words set the tone: this is a record driven by catharsis, shaped by cultural tension, and grounded in finding meaning within it.
