Rolling Stones lean into R&B influences on upcoming single “Jealous Lover”
The Rolling Stones have announced a new single, “Jealous Lover,” set for release on June 26, as anticipation builds for their upcoming studio album Foreign Tongues, due July 10 via Capitol Records.
The track follows recent single “In The Stars” and continues to showcase the band’s range, shifting this time into a soulful R&B-influenced sound. Built around a smooth, rhythmic groove, “Jealous Lover” features a standout falsetto vocal from Mick Jagger, who delivers lyrics that playfully but pointedly address an over-curious partner.
Musically, the song leans into the band’s long-standing roots in rhythm and blues. Guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood provide subtle but expressive interplay, while the rhythm section of Darryl Jones on bass and Steve Jordan locks into a steady, deep groove. The arrangement is further shaped by contributions from Steve Winwood on Rhodes and organ, alongside additional keyboards and production touches from Andrew Watt and Matt Clifford.
Taken together, “Jealous Lover” highlights the band’s continued ability to shift styles while maintaining a distinctive identity more than six decades into their career. It blends classic influences with a modern polish, reinforcing the sense that Foreign Tongues will be a wide-ranging addition to their catalogue.
“Jealous Lover” credits include vocals from Mick Jagger, guitars from Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, bass by Darryl Jones, drums and percussion by Steve Jordan, keys from Steve Winwood and Matt Clifford, and additional instrumentation from Andrew Watt.
