Carly Rae Jepsen has shared her new single “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor”, the first track released from her forthcoming 24-track double album Day and Night, arriving September 18.

The new song sees Jepsen transform feelings of heartbreak and the fear of abandonment into a euphoric, club-ready pop anthem. Written with producers CJ Baran and Arthur Besnainou, the track marks the first glimpse into the “night” side of the upcoming project.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Jepsen revealed that a trip to see ABBA Voyage helped spark the idea behind its sound.

“I’d just been recording in Sweden and then traveled to London to see ABBA Voyage. I came home with a mission of making my own ABBA-esque pop song, something with a perfect pop melody, but with some updated production. I wanted a hook that made you feel like you had to participate and sing along.”

The accompanying music video marks the directorial debut of playwright, actor and screenwriter Jeremy O. Harris. The video stars Tony Award-winning actor Alden Ehrenreich alongside Jepsen, with Olivia Washington also appearing in the story.

The visual follows Ehrenreich’s character as he deals with the aftermath of a painful phone call with a lover before finding himself dancing in a near-empty dance hall. As Jepsen performs “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor”, the video explores the tension between heartbreak and the freedom found in music and movement.

Harris said of working with Jepsen: “With every song on Day and Night Carly, our last modern bard, has turned complex stories into a jaunty pop smash while also mining the joys and pains of loving and being loved as adult now.”

“Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor” follows previous singles “On Wires” and “After All”, which introduced fans to the “day” side of Day and Night, while the latest release highlights the album’s more expansive dance-focused sound.

Jepsen will release Day and Night on September 18, with her first live performance of 2026 set to take place at NYC’s All Things Go Festival on September 27.
