Gabriella Cilmi has unveiled her new single, ‘Pieces’, offering another glimpse into her forthcoming album, Pure Love. 

Inspired by the jolt of seeing someone you once loved with another person, the track brings emotions that seemed long buried back to the surface.

‘Pieces’ arrives after the previously released ‘Pure Love’ and ‘YRU Hanging Around’, with Pure Love set to arrive on 9th October 2026. The album marks Gabriella’s first full-length release in 13 years and continues a period of renewed creativity, with the singer embracing artistic freedom, live musicianship and a more relaxed approach to perfectionism.

Co-written with Julia Church and produced by Peter Miles, ‘Pieces’ takes some of its atmosphere from Roberta Flack’s First Take, which Gabriella cites as an influence. The track is built around warm live instrumentation inspired by 60s soul and R&B, while its layered harmonies complement the classic-pop feel running throughout Pure Love.

“‘Pieces’ is about seeing the person you once loved with somebody else and the flood of emotions and questions that comes with that,”

Gabriella says. “For this record I really wanted to have the female gaze at the forefront so I purposefully seeked out female collaborators.”

Her work with Julia Church grew from that intention, with Gabriella describing Church as one of the best artists and songwriters she has worked with. 

Their collaboration reflects the wider creative direction of Pure Love, which was recorded live to tape with a full band at Middle Farm Studios in Devon, drawing on influences from soul, blues and classic pop.

At the heart of the album is Gabriella’s desire to move beyond the pressures and expectations that shaped parts of her earlier career. “‘Pure Love’ was about unlearning everything I’d known, throwing away perfectionism and trying to please people,” she says. “This record is me, unfiltered and raw.”
