The Charlatans Share First Single in Eight Years: “We Are Love”, Album Out Soon

The Charlatans have released a new single, “We Are Love”, and with it, confirmed details of their upcoming album of the same name — due out October 31 via BMG. It’s their first full-length in eight years, and while they’re not straying too far from their established sound, there’s a clear sense of reflection and renewal in the mix.

Built on steady drums and bright guitar work, “We Are Love” explores themes of connection, uncertainty, and perspective. The lyrics touch on emotional distance and reconciliation — “My glass half empty / Yours half full” — before pulling everything together in a simple, unifying chorus:

“This is the place / These are the days / We are love.”

A Quick Look at the Video

The official video flips between hazy, dancefloor-style footage of people moving and more stripped-back shots of Tim Burgess performing in a dark, industrial space. It’s slightly psychedelic without going full-on surreal — a good visual match for the tone of the track.

New Album & Tour

The album — also titled We Are Love — lands on October 31 and features 11 tracks recorded at both Rockfield Studios and the band’s own Big Mushroom Studio. Production credits include Dev Hynes, Fred Macpherson, and Stephen Street, offering a mix of fresh and familiar influences.

Alongside the album news, The Charlatans have also announced a UK tour this December, with shows lined up in Leeds, Stoke, Bath, London, Manchester, and Glasgow.

One YouTube commenter summed up the reaction pretty simply:

“One of my favourite tunes already – it’s absolutely brilliant. The Charlatans still got it, never lost it.”

Hard to argue. The track doesn’t overreach — it just finds a groove and settles into it with confidence.

Final Thoughts

“We Are Love” doesn’t try too hard to make a big statement — and that’s part of what works. It’s a steady, thoughtful return from a band that’s always known how to find meaning in the everyday. If the rest of the album follows this lead, it could be a strong addition to their catalogue.
