Of Mice & Men Dive into Darker Depths with New Single “Troubled Water”

Metalcore heavyweights Of Mice & Men are on the scene again with the release of their crushing new single “Troubled Water,” the latest preview of their upcoming ninth studio album, Another Miracle (out November 14 via Century Media Records). The track is accompanied by a stark, sci-fi-inspired video directed by longtime collaborator Mike Matsui and has quickly ignited conversation across the rock and metal community.

A Darker, More Menacing Turn

“‘Troubled Water’ is about setting boundaries, about vampiric and apathetic relationships with people who only seem to seek connection when it benefits them,” drummer Valentino Arteaga said in a press release. “Heavy, headbangable riffs paired with pure sci-fi nightmare energy makes this track one of our favourites off the album.”

The song lives up to that promise: a wall of down-tuned guitars and throbbing electronic accents that feel both futuristic and claustrophobic. The chorus—delivered with Aaron Pauley’s searing vocal intensity—captures the suffocating emotion the band describes, offering a heavier, darker side than the more melodic “Wake Up,” which is currently climbing the Active Rock Radio charts.

Fans React: “Hot Damn, This is Heavy AF!”

The fan response has been instant and enthusiastic. One YouTube commenter declared, “In 2025, the real metalcore is back! … Awesome, guys…” Another added simply, “Hot damn this is heavy AF! Mike killed it with this music video 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.” On social media, longtime listeners praised the band for refusing to recycle old formulas.

A fan on Micespace Fanclub wrote:

“You can tell this is 100% them—self-produced, raw, and personal. It feels like a band comfortable in their own skin but still willing to take risks.”

A Slight Review: Boundary-Pushing Yet Familiar

“Troubled Water” is a statement track. Its layered electronic textures recall the experimentation on Tether, but the sheer weight of the breakdowns nods to the band’s Restoring Force era. Matsui’s practical effects-heavy video adds to the tension, creating a physical, almost tactile sense of dread rather than relying on CGI. While the song doesn’t completely reinvent Of Mice & Men’s sound, its menacing tone suggests Another Miracle will stretch beyond predictable metalcore tropes.

Album & Tour on the Horizon

Another Miracle marks the band’s third self-produced album, recorded entirely in-house by Pauley, Arteaga, Phil Manansala, and Alan Ashby. According to Pauley, “We’re always pushing the boundaries of what excites us musically… the only way to progress forward is to challenge ourselves.”

Fans won’t have to wait long to hear “Troubled Water” live. Of Mice & Men are wrapping up their U.S. festival run before heading to Europe and the UK for a headline tour kicking off November 27 in Hamburg and closing December 14 in Glasgow. UK dates include London’s Electric Ballroom on December 11.

With “Troubled Water,” Of Mice & Men prove they’re not coasting on past glories. It’s a dark, muscular, and refreshingly experimental track that suggests Another Miracle could be one of their most ambitious releases yet. If this single is any indication, the band’s ninth album won’t just satisfy loyal fans—it might pull in new ones eager for heavy music that refuses to stand still.
