There was never any question that Dave Grohl was going to be a musician, from the moment when he fired his first guitar teacher and decided to teach himself at the age of 12. His rock and roll persona was firmly established when he became heavily dependent on marijuana while still at high school and spent most of his free time hanging out at local clubs watching punk bands. He somehow found the time to teach himself drums along the way and by the time Kurt Cobain saw him playing in Washington band Scream in 1990 and asked him to join his band Nirvana, his place in rock history was assured.
