Matt Cardle Kicks Off 2026 with Uplifting ‘Fading Lights’

Multi-platinum artist and BRIT Award nominee Matt Cardle kicks off 2026 with the release of his new single ‘Fading Lights’. Marking his return after a seven-year gap between albums, the track is a confident and feelgood statement that sets the tone for his forthcoming record, The Great Escape, due April 10th.
‘Fading Lights’ blends infectious modern pop production with alt-pop flourishes, showcasing dramatic percussion, energising sonic contrasts, and sweet synth touches that create a contagious energy. Cardle’s signature four-octave vocal range shines throughout, delivering a soaring hook designed for radio appeal and leaving an unmistakable feelgood impression. The song was written in collaboration with producers Dan McDougall, known for his work with Sam Ryder and Liam Gallagher, and Jim Eliot, whose credits include Ellie Goulding and Kylie Minogue, with mixing by Charlie Russell.
Lyrically, the track carries a message of resilience and optimism. Cardle has explained that it was written as a personal reminder not to let the pressures of the system crush his spirit or dreams. The song encourages listeners to hold onto hope even in challenging circumstances, making it both timely and deeply personal.
‘Fading Lights’ and the hypnotic slowburner ‘Drinking Dreams’ offer a first glimpse into The Great Escape, a 15-track album crafted over more than a decade. The record spans infectious pop, soul, and indie-rock balladry, blending classic songwriting with contemporary production, string arrangements, and alt-pop embellishments. Collaborators include Michael Champion of Wet Leg, Ben Cullum, Danny Connors, Tim Bran of London Grammar, and long-term partner Neil Wilson. One track is co-produced and co-written by multiple Ivor Novello winner Eg White.
Cardle’s career has been defined by high-profile milestones, from performing alongside Rihanna to chart-topping singles like ‘When We Collide’ and collaborations with Melanie C and Gary Barlow. He has also excelled as an award-winning West End actor, with leading roles in Memphis, Jesus Christ Superstar, Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom, and touring as Shakespeare in & Juliet.
With The Great Escape, Cardle is reconnecting with a mainstream audience while exploring newfound creativity and confidence.
‘Fading Lights’ sees Matt Cardle return with a surge of energy, blending soaring pop hooks and emotive vocals that make optimism feel contagious.
