Review: Amber Mark’s “Sweet Serotonin” Hits the Right Note

One of my favourite artists, Amber Mark, just released a new song called “Sweet Serotonin”. While I’m excited about this new track, my all-time favourite by her is still her performance of “Most Men” on “A COLORS SHOW”. It’s truly something special. Amber has already achieved so much musically, and if this latest release is any sign, there’s plenty more to come.

Serotonin is something we all need and have, whether we’re aware of it or not. I’m not sure if you can get it from music, but this song definitely made me feel happier and reminded me that life is good. The production is fairly simple, which works in its favour. Like many great tracks, it proves that simplicity can be powerful. I can hear drums, bass, piano, horns, guitars, and of course, her incredible vocals. There might be a few subtle elements I missed, but those are the main ones.

“Sweet Serotonin” is very much in line with Amber’s style. It feels like a step forward while still holding onto the sound that makes her unique. There’s even a bit of the same swagger you might hear in some of Amy Winehouse’s most iconic songs. Lyrically, it seems to compare the sugar-like rush of serotonin to the feeling of new romance. It plays with the idea that people often chase that initial high without thinking about their long-term happiness. I think the lyrics are really clever in that way.

I don’t know what the future holds for Amber Mark, but I’m definitely hoping for a full album. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention—her vocal performance on this track is outstanding. As always, she brings so much skill and emotion. Her control, timing, melodic choices, and tone are all flawless. That’s why I keep going back to her performance of “Most Men” on “A COLORS SHOW”. It’s such a powerful reminder of how exceptional her voice really is.

Go give “Sweet Serotonin” a listen. You’ll be glad you did.
