Warm and Serene: Jacob Collier Unveils “I Know (A Little)”

Jacob Collier has just released a new single, “I Know (A Little).” I’d say Jacob is one of the most prolific artists of our time, consistently putting out albums and pouring his heart into live performances. “I Know (a little)” continues his exploration of the acoustic guitar. Known primarily for his piano playing and vocals, it’s refreshing to hear how the guitar is becoming an increasingly expressive part of his sound.

This track feels warm and serene, at times even evoking shades of The Beatles. It unmistakably bears Jacob’s signature style—his unique voice and intricate instrumentation remain instantly recognizable. I recently listened to his album Djesse Vol. 4 and thoroughly enjoyed it. And of course, we can’t forget he has another album on the way: The Light For Days.

I think much of Jacob’s work has genuine artistic merit. For me, it’s better suited to active listening rather than background music. Passive listening—like what I’d put on in a mall, while studying, or doing chores—doesn’t demand focus. Jacob’s tracks, including this one, are different: they’re layered and complex, rewarding anyone who stops and gives them full attention.

Jacob’s voice is both soaring and soothing, gliding effortlessly above the instruments. I believe what first gave him a big boost were his early choir-style videos, where he performed songs like “Isn’t She Lovely” and “Don’t You Worry ’Bout a Thing.” I remember watching those with friends and being stunned—how could someone our age record himself singing 15 different vocal parts, weave them together so perfectly, and make them sound breathtaking?

It’s clear there’s no slowing Jacob down. He’s a remarkably prolific artist, and his latest single is well worth a listen.
