Josh Groban Announces New Album CINEMATIC Featuring Songs From The Lion King, The Godfather and More

In a music industry often driven by fast trends and viral moments, Josh Groban is taking a different route. The Tony, Emmy and five time Grammy nominated singer is turning his attention to the enduring power of film music with the announcement of a new album, CINEMATIC, set for release on May 8 through Reprise Records.

The ten track project is a sweeping tribute to the songs that helped define some of cinema’s most unforgettable moments. Produced by hitmaker Greg Wells, whose credits include major projects tied to The Greatest Showman and Wicked as well as work with artists like Dua Lipa, Adele, and Taylor Swift, the album was recorded across two music capitals: Los Angeles and London.

Groban describes the project as both a love letter to film and an attempt to capture the emotional pull of the big screen through music.

“There’s something incredibly powerful about the way a song or score can elevate a story and stay with you long after the credits roll,” Groban explains. “With CINEMATIC, I wanted to honor that feeling — the nostalgia, the drama, the romance — while bringing my own voice and perspective to these timeless songs. Recording this album felt like stepping into some of the most iconic moments in film history, and I hope listeners are transported the same way I have always been when the lights go down and the music begins.”

The announcement arrives alongside Groban’s first preview of the album, a new recording of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King. The soaring version features the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and offers a glimpse into the album’s large scale sound and orchestral sweep.

Across the tracklist, Groban revisits beloved music from films that span generations. The project includes material connected to classics such as The Godfather, Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Stand by Me.

Several collaborations stand out. Groban reunites with longtime friend and touring partner Jennifer Hudson for a duet on “Unchained Melody,” famously associated with Ghost. In another personal moment, his father, Jack Groban, contributes the trumpet solo on “Moon River,” the enduring theme from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The album also features a Sicilian language rendition of “Brucia La Terra” from The Godfather, a lush orchestral take on “As Time Goes By” from Casablanca, and a dramatic interpretation of the Adele hit “Skyfall” from the James Bond film Skyfall. Other selections include “Remember Me” from Coco and “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinocchio.

The release comes at a busy moment for Groban. Earlier this year he launched his 2026 GEMS World Tour with a sold out opening night in Honolulu before traveling through Asia and Oceania. The tour continues across Europe this spring with major arena stops including Dublin’s 3Arena and London’s The O2.

North American dates follow in June, where Hudson will join him as a special guest. Highlights include performances at Madison Square Garden, TD Garden, and Bridgestone Arena.

Later this year, Groban will also return to Las Vegas for a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

With CINEMATIC, Groban is betting that audiences still crave the sweeping emotion and storytelling power that classic film music provides. For fans of both cinema and orchestral pop, the album aims to recreate a familiar feeling: the lights dimming, the curtain rising, and a song carrying the story long after the final scene fades.
