Cameron Whitcomb leans into momentum with raw new single “Kingdom of Fear”

Rising Canadian singer-songwriter Cameron Whitcomb is having the kind of moment artists spend years chasing, and judging by early fan reaction, he is not slowing down.

His latest single, “Kingdom of Fear,” arrived this week via Atlantic Records’ Atlantic Outpost imprint, offering a hard-driving, emotionally charged preview of his upcoming EP Deep Water, due April 17. The release comes at a time when Whitcomb’s profile is rapidly expanding, fueled by relentless touring, major award nominations, and a growing global audience.

Online, listeners are already zeroing in on what sets him apart. One YouTube commenter wrote, “How do his lyrics hit so hard every time… and he has the voice to back them up? Playing on repeat until I got all the lyrics memorized.” Another added that discovering Whitcomb now feels like catching lightning early, comparing the experience to first hearing NF in 2014. “Each song just keeps getting better and better,” the fan wrote, calling his music reflective, relatable, and encouraging.

That connection is something Whitcomb himself seems newly energized by. Speaking about his recent creative run, he described falling back in love with songwriting, calling the process both familiar and refreshing as he turns personal ideas into finished songs.

“Kingdom of Fear” follows his recent single “You and Me,” which marked one of his strongest streaming debuts to date and landed on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. The track, produced by Jack Riley alongside collaborators Cal Shapiro and Nolan Sipe, has become a staple of his live shows while touring North America as a guest on HARDY’s THE COUNTRY! COUNTRY! TOUR!.

The new release also lands just days before a major career milestone. Whitcomb is set to perform at the Juno Awards this Sunday in Hamilton, where he enters as one of the most-nominated artists with five nods. He shares top-category recognition with global names like Justin Bieber, Tate McRae, and The Weeknd, underscoring just how quickly his rise has taken shape.

It caps a stretch of success that began with his debut album The Hard Way, which topped Canada’s country albums chart, earned Gold certification, and helped push his catalog past hundreds of millions of streams. The project drew heavily from his personal story, including struggles with addiction and recovery, themes that continue to resonate in his newer material.

Still only 22, the Nanaimo, British Columbia native is balancing that introspection with a demanding tour schedule. His Fragile Egos Tour is already selling out venues across the United States, while additional dates supporting HARDY, a near sold-out run in Australia and New Zealand, and a packed summer festival slate, including appearances at Stagecoach Music Festival and Tailgate N’ Tallboys, point to an artist moving from breakout to mainstay.

With Deep Water on the horizon and “Kingdom of Fear” striking a chord early, Whitcomb’s trajectory feels less like a question of if and more like how fast.
