Corey Kent offers fans a glimpse of what’s next with “Wannabe”
Multi-platinum country artist Corey Kent is stepping into a more stripped-back sound with the release of his new single, “Wannabe,” a track he says reflects both his artistic direction and personal values.
The song, released through Sony Music Nashville, marks an early glimpse into Kent’s forthcoming project. According to the Oklahoma native, “Wannabe” was the first song written for the new record and quickly set the tone for what followed.
“It’s simple on purpose,” Kent said in a statement. “It’s a song about how the little things and everyday moments in life mean more than fame and fortune ever could.”
Built around acoustic guitar with touches of steel and fiddle, the track leans into a minimalist, reflective style. Kent has described it as a “cowboy campfire ballad,” emphasizing authenticity and a return to basics over commercial polish.
The release follows a surge of momentum for Kent. His previous single, “Empty Words,” gained traction online, racking up more than 20 million social media views and prompting an accelerated release. At the same time, his collaboration with Koe Wetzel, “Rocky Mountain Low,” has climbed into the top 20 on country radio within just 13 weeks.
Streaming numbers have also continued to climb, with Kent now averaging around 11 million streams per week. Earlier this year, he surpassed one billion career streams, further solidifying his place among country music’s rising acts.
His recent accolades include a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America for “This Heart” and a Platinum certification for “Something’s Gonna Kill Me.” Both follow his breakout hit “Wild As Her,” which reached triple-Platinum status and earned him his first No. 1.
Kent’s growing profile has also led to major touring opportunities. He is set to perform at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California on April 25, followed by an international run that includes the Highways Festival in London and headline shows across Germany and the Netherlands.
Industry recognition has kept pace with his commercial success. Rolling Stone recently noted that Kent has brought a “shot of mainstream sensibility” to his regional roots, while programs like Opry NextStage and coverage from CMT have highlighted him as one of the genre’s emerging voices.
Kent has also shared the stage with major names including Morgan Wallen, Jon Pardi, Jason Aldean and Parker McCollum, further expanding his reach.
With “Wannabe,” Kent appears focused less on chart positions and more on connection, signaling a chapter defined by simplicity, reflection and a clearer sense of purpose.
