Cody Johnson leans into his roots on new album Banks Of The Trinity
Multi-platinum country star Cody Johnson is set to release his next studio album, Banks Of The Trinity, on June 26, 2026, marking a deeply personal chapter in his career rooted in childhood memories and hometown influences.
The project, produced by Trent Willmon and released through Warner Records Nashville in partnership with COJO Music, is now available for pre-order. Johnson shared early details about the album in an interview with Billboard, offering fans insight into the inspiration behind the record.
To coincide with the announcement, Johnson has released the album’s first track, “I Want You,” written by Tom Douglas, Tony Lane and Matt Rogers.
Johnson said the album reflects a return to his roots, both musically and personally. “On this album, I wanted to tell the story about my childhood,” he said. “When I heard the song ‘Banks Of The Trinity’ for the first time, it brought back memories I had honestly forgotten. It took me back home to Sebastopol, Texas, where I grew up on the Trinity River.”
That sense of nostalgia carries into the album’s artwork, which features a photo of a local landmark from his youth, Lawrence’s Grocery Store in Sebastopol. Johnson recalled riding his bike miles down a dirt road as a child to buy cream soda and Blue Bell treats, often lingering to listen to conversations before heading home with groceries.
Banks Of The Trinity follows a run of successful releases for Johnson, including Leather, which earned Album of the Year honors at the Country Music Association in 2024. His catalog includes multiple chart-topping singles and certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America, with hits like “’Til You Can’t,” “The Painter,” “Dirt Cheap,” and “I’m Gonna Love You” featuring Carrie Underwood. Collectively, his music has surpassed 10 billion global streams.
His current single, “The Fall,” is sitting in the Top 5 on country charts this week, adding to the momentum as he approaches the album’s release.
Johnson is also preparing for a major live milestone. On April 24, he will headline the Stagecoach Festival for the first time. Reflecting on his journey, he recalled playing smaller stages at the event earlier in his career and wondering whether audiences knew his songs. Now, he returns as a headliner on the main stage.
Awards recognition continues to follow. Johnson has earned four nominations at the Academy of Country Music Awards, including Entertainer of the Year and Male Artist of the Year. The ceremony is set for May 17, 2026, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will stream on Prime Video.
On the road, Johnson’s headline tour continues through the fall, with a string of sold-out shows. Among them is a record-setting concert at NRG Stadium, where he drew more than 80,000 fans, and a milestone appearance at RodeoHouston, becoming only the second artist after George Strait to headline a concert-only performance at the event.
With a growing list of accolades, global touring success and a new album centered on personal storytelling, Johnson continues to strengthen his place among country music’s leading voices.
