“Ride Lonesome” echoes Beck’s classic acoustic period while opening a new tour cycle

Eight-time GRAMMY winner Beck has released a surprise new single, “Ride Lonesome,” alongside the announcement of a 25-date North American tour. The track arrives with a video and continues his long-running association with intimate, reflective acoustic songwriting, with production by Beck and mixing from Nigel Godrich.

Musically, “Ride Lonesome” leans into sparse acoustic guitar and atmospheric space, drawing comparisons from listeners to earlier work such as Sea Change and Morning Phase. Several collaborators from those eras also contribute here, reinforcing the sense of a return to familiar sonic ground rather than a sharp stylistic shift.

Fan discussion online has been immediate and detailed, especially around Beck’s guitar tone. One YouTube commenter wrote, “When Beck writes a lonely acoustic song in the key of E, it’s an instant classic.” And also noting how closely they associate his acoustic sound with repeated open E chord moments in earlier songs, pointing to tracks like “The Golden Age” and “Guess I’m Doing Fine” as reference points. The broader reaction suggests listeners are responding less to formal theory and more to a recognizable acoustic “feel” that recurs across his catalog.

Another fan response framed the release in terms of long-term loyalty to artists’ bodies of work, placing Beck alongside musicians whose entire discographies are followed as ongoing artistic journeys rather than isolated releases. Others focused on the mood of the video itself, describing desert silhouettes, wind farms, and a sepia-toned atmosphere that evoked a reflective, almost cinematic tone.

The new single also arrives with the announcement of the Ride Lonesome Tour, promoted by Live Nation. The tour begins September 16 in Vancouver and includes stops at venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Massey Hall in Toronto, and Brooklyn Paramount, before wrapping October 31 in Nashville. Several cities will host multiple-night runs, including San Francisco, Toronto, and Brooklyn.

Tickets go on sale April 24 at 10am local time, with early access for Citi cardmembers via Citi Entertainment beginning April 21.
