The photographers behind some of David Bowie’s most iconic images will step out from behind the camera for a rare live event in London this month, sharing unseen stories from the making of the star’s many reinventions.

Bowie Nights: Behind the Lens, taking place at Lightroom in King’s Cross on May 26, will bring together six renowned photographers whose work helped define Bowie’s image across decades of cultural transformation, from Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane to the Thin White Duke and Serious Moonlight eras.

Presented by journalist and author Miranda Sawyer, the one-off event will feature Geoff MacCormack, Kevin Cummins, Richard Young, Denis O’Regan, Tony McGee and Chris Duffy discussing the stories behind their photographs and what it was like documenting Bowie during some of his most creatively ambitious periods.

The photographers will present selected portraits that capture their personal vision of Bowie, alongside first-hand accounts of the moments behind the images. Their work will also be projected across Lightroom’s four-storey immersive walls, placing the image makers themselves at the centre of the experience.

Producer David Sabel said: “These photographers knew David Bowie at his most creative, and his most vulnerable, helping conjure the iconic looks of one of music’s great shapeshifters. This event will tell the stories of what it was like behind the scenes as the legends of the likes of Aladdin Sane and The Thin White Duke were born.”

The event forms part of Lightroom’s Bowie Nights season, a programme of spring and summer events celebrating Bowie’s artistic legacy and influence across music, design and culture.

It coincides with David Bowie: You’re Not Alone, Lightroom’s new immersive production created using material drawn from thousands of hours of footage in the David Bowie Archive in New York and fully authorised by the David Bowie Estate.
