Kodaline Bid Farewell With Final Album We Were Only Young

Irish band Kodaline have announced that their upcoming fifth studio record, We Were Only Young, will be their final album, bringing to a close a career that has spanned more than a decade and produced multiple chart hits, platinum records and billions of streams worldwide.

The album is set for release on October 2 via Concord, with the band unveiling new single "Without You" alongside the announcement. The acoustic track holds particular significance for frontman Steve Garrigan, who wrote it for his wife and performed it as part of his wedding day celebrations.

"I've never been much of a talker, but I can write a song," Garrigan said. "I wanted to do something special for my wife on our wedding day, so I wrote her 'Without You'. It became my speech, it was our first dance, and it felt too special not to share."

The announcement arrives as Kodaline prepare to embark on an extensive Farewell World Tour, beginning with a trio of major Irish dates next week, including a sold-out show at Dublin's Malahide Castle. The run will then take the band across Asia, Australia, Europe and the UK, with numerous dates already sold out.

According to Garrigan, We Were Only Young reflects on a transformative period in his life and the band's journey toward its conclusion. Written over four years, the album explores themes of love, loss, uncertainty and personal growth, while also serving as a document of the group's final chapter.

"I wrote this album over the last four years, and when I started it, I wasn't even sure I wanted to write songs anymore," he said. "The record became a way of making sense of a really important period in my life — getting married, dealing with loss, uncertainty, and the end of the band."

Fans were first introduced to the album earlier this year through its title track, which has amassed more than six million streams and received widespread radio support across the UK and Europe.

Formed in Dublin, Kodaline have become one of Ireland's most successful modern bands, known for songs including "All I Want", "High Hopes" and "The One". With We Were Only Young, the quartet say they are ending their recording career on their own terms, pairing one final studio statement with a worldwide farewell tour.

We Were Only Young is released October 2 via Concord.
