Natalie Imbruglia has shared the personal inspiration behind her new single Just Drive, revealing it was born from the instinct to hide your own heartbreak to protect someone you still love.

The shimmering electro-pop track is the latest preview of Algorithm, her forthcoming album, due for release on September 4. While driven by luminous synths, pulsing beats and an uplifting energy, Just Drive explores a quieter, more universal emotion: choosing to carry the pain of a breakup alone.

Speaking about the song, Natalie said: "I wrote 'Just Drive' about a breakup, and about something I think a lot of us do, which is hiding how we feel to make other people feel better. Sometimes you'd rather go through it on your own, as hard as that is. You love the other person so much, you don't want to put them through it too."

The result is a track that balances emotional honesty with cathartic, dancefloor-ready production. Wrapped around Natalie's tender yet powerful vocal, Just Drive combines shimmering electronic textures, piano flourishes and a driving beat, capturing the feeling of putting your foot down and moving forward rather than standing still in heartbreak.

Natalie wrote and produced Just Drive with MyRiot, the production duo known for their work with London Grammar and Primal Scream, continuing a creative partnership that features across several tracks on Algorithm. The album also includes contributions from Fraser T Smith, Gary Lightbody, Anu Pillai, Tobie Tripp, David Sneddon, Dan Priddy, Mark Crew and Romeo Stodart.

Algorithm marks a new chapter for Natalie, with the singer personally financing and directing the project herself. The album pairs deeply personal songwriting with sleek, modern production, creating songs that embrace vulnerability while offering the escapism and release of pop music.

The campaign has already gathered momentum with previous singles Upside Down, which received its first play and playlist support from BBC Radio 2, and the album's title track. Together, they introduce what promises to be Natalie's most emotionally open collection of songs to date.

The album will be available in a range of formats, including a limited edition transparent blue vinyl with a sparkle 7", available through Wax and Beans, alongside a cassette edition and other exclusive formats from Natalie's official store.

Alongside the album campaign, Natalie has spent the year reconnecting with audiences through headline shows, festival appearances and performances with Tom Jones. Her summer schedule continues with appearances at Poland's Summer Festival in Lodz on July 24, Lazydays Festival in Southend on July 26, App-Fest in Tewkesbury on August 1 and Replay Festival in Perth on August 15, before performing at Brava in Madrid on September 19. She will also appear at the Jose Carreras & Friends stadium spectacular at The Gabba in Brisbane on December 5.
