Yukon Era reveals new single 'Feel'

It seems like it was only yesterday when the members of Yukon Era had to have their parents around when performing in R18 venues. About a few days ago, the post-punk band released their single ‘Feel’, a tune heavy in personal history. In the words of vocalist Christian Dimick “Feel is a song that touches on personal issues within my life, feeling absent from others as well as myself, along with feeling crushed by the weight of people’s expectations of me”. A perfect way to put into words a concern weirdly relatable on a very large scale.
What’s particularly impressive in this project is the accurate depiction of distress through a surprisingly mature songwriting for a 20-year-old (Everyone is waiting for everyone else / The only one I’m waiting for is myself) – but also through a powerful music video, with dark and unstable images of a young man having a hard time partying with friends. While all the ingredients for a good time are there, the video compiles glimpses of the main character whether sitting on a couch bottle in hand with a preoccupied look; or cleansing his face alone in the bathroom, flickering lights above his head. An image, by the way, which recalls of the disturbing but legendary artwork of Placebo’s album Meds – an interesting link considering the rhythmical line may sound like an RHCP construction, but the darker melody added reminds of the famous Molko-Olsdal duo’s sound.
The Kiwi band sure made a remarkable entrance on the UK music market with a stunning performance at The Great Escape Festival, and now with the release of the impressive track that is ‘Feel’. At such a young age, we can only wonder and look forward to how much better Yukon Era will become.
