There’s something undeniably fun about a road trip. We get to enjoy beautiful scenery, get to know one another in entirely different ways, and make indelible memories. Trumpet and flugelhorn player, Keith Fiala, who is a member of Arturo Sandoval’s band, and his girlfriend, French horn player, Brenda Muhlenkamp, recently took such a summer road trip. The trip resulted in their new upbeat jazz fusion single collaboration, “Road Trippin’,” It’s one that’s guaranteed to elevate the spirits and bring a big smile along with that. 

Departing from Austin, TX, driving to Los Angeles, a fly-out to the Rochester Jazz Festival, then back to LA, was the first part of the trip. Then they journeyed from Los Angeles to the Grand Canyon, and then finally back to Austin. 

Fiala said, “Being a musician couple, of course music was a major part of our journey. We talked about creating a song that would convey the experiences, the amazing scenery, and the wonderful time we shared during this trip.”

The song features a stellar guitar solo from Billy Denk, Fiala on trumpet, flugelhorn, and midi programming, his and hers vocals by Muhlenkamp and Fiala, Brian J. Gardner on tenor sax, and trombones by Jeff Freeman. Along with Muhlenkamp, production consultants include Nick Mondello and Grace Hinton. 

The track, which drops July 24, 2006, is on convenient pre-save, and will be available on all streaming services. Meanwhile, there is also an outstanding animated music video found on YouTube, which chronicles some of the scenery and completely captures the upbeat summer fun mood. It’s well worth watching. Overall, this is enjoyable, upbeat, beautifully produced, jazz fusion, perfect for summer fun.
