Simple Minds are officially back in a big way. The iconic Scottish band have dropped Live in The City of Diamonds via BMG, a new live album that captures the electric energy of their 2024 sold-out show at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome — just in time for their biggest North American tour in over 40 years.
Live in The City of Diamonds completes the band’s celebrated Live in The City series (which began in 1987), and offers a perfect snapshot of Simple Minds' unparalleled live prowess. The recording captures Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill, and the rest of the band playing to a packed crowd of 17,000 fans, with a setlist that spans their trailblazing career.
The new release is available in several formats: a 2xCD Media Book featuring 24 tracks and a 24-page booklet with exclusive tour notes penned by Kerr himself, a Double Black Vinyl edition with 18 tracks housed in a high-spec gatefold sleeve, and a Specialist Retail Exclusive version on Double Clear/Glitter Vinyl.
The tracklist reads like a love letter to their career, including early post-punk essentials like "Love Song," "Sons and Fascination," and "Sweat in Bullet," as well as era-defining hits like "Promised You a Miracle," "Waterfront," and the global smash "Don't You (Forget About Me)." Cuts from New Gold Dream and Once Upon a Time — both celebrating their 40th anniversaries this year — feature prominently, alongside fan favorites like "Belfast Child" and "See the Lights."
Simple Minds' live lineup remains as formidable as ever, featuring original members Jim Kerr (vocals) and Charlie Burchill (guitar), along with Gordy Goudie (rhythm guitar), Ged Grimes (bass), Cherisse Osei (drums), Erik Ljunggren (keyboards), and Sarah Brown (vocals).
Following the album's release, Simple Minds will embark on a massive North American tour beginning May 16 in Ridgefield, Washington, and wrapping up June 22 in Noblesville, Indiana. Along the way, they’ll hit major cities including Los Angeles, Toronto, New York, and Chicago, playing a mix of amphitheaters and arenas.
