Lewis Capaldi Stuns Glastonbury with Surprise Set, Premieres Emotional New Single “Survive”

Two years after bowing out mid-set in one of Glastonbury’s most emotional moments, Lewis Capaldi made an unannounced and triumphant return to the Pyramid Stage today, delivering a short but soul-baring surprise performance.

The 2x GRAMMY® nominee stunned fans with a stripped-back rendition of his global smash “Someone You Loved” before debuting “Survive” — a bold, brutally honest new single released earlier this morning via Capitol Records.

The song, co-written with longtime collaborator RØMANS, dives headfirst into the mental health struggles that have shaped Capaldi’s time away from the spotlight. Both haunting and defiant, “Survive” has already clocked over a million streams within 12 hours of release, appearing on New Music Friday playlists around the globe.

Capaldi’s return to Glastonbury is particularly significant. In 2023, visibly struggling with Tourette's symptoms and mental exhaustion, he was forced to cut his set short — but not before the crowd helped him finish singing his songs in a now-legendary display of love and support. Today’s performance was quieter, steadier — and deeply moving.

Earlier this year, Capaldi dipped his toe back into live performance with a handful of low-pressure shows in Scotland, hosted by mental health charity CALM during Mental Health Awareness Week. According to sources close to the artist, these gigs helped him reconnect with the music on his own terms.

Next, Capaldi heads to the U.S. to perform “Survive” live on Good Morning America (July 7) and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (July 14).

Capaldi’s stats speak for themselves: over 30 billion global streams, two BRIT Awards, a Diamond-certified U.S. No. 1 single (“Someone You Loved”), and two chart-topping albums. His 2023 Netflix documentary How I’m Feeling Now — which chronicled the anxiety and pressure of fame — was nominated for a GRAMMY® for Best Music Film.

But today wasn’t about stats. Today, Capaldi proved that music — and raw, human connection — always wins.
