Metal legend Dave Mustaine has announced that Megadeth’s forthcoming album—due early next year—will be the band’s final studio release. The news, shared directly with fans and members of the Megadeth Cyber Army via Mustaine’s alter ego Vic Rattlehead, also revealed plans for a massive global farewell tour kicking off in 2026. In addition, Mustaine will release a new memoir next year, with details to follow in the coming months.

“Most [musicians] don't get to go out on their own terms on top, and that's where I'm at in my life right now,” Mustaine said. “The hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye… Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years.”

Mustaine reflected on Megadeth’s four-decade legacy, noting the band’s role in shaping thrash metal and influencing generations of guitarists. “We started a musical style, we started a revolution… we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.”

The as-yet-untitled album will arrive via Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s BLKIIBLK label. The first single and global pre-orders will launch this fall. Fans can register now for early access to exclusive updates, album offers, and farewell tour information. The initial run of tour dates is expected to be announced later this year.

Since forming in 1983, Megadeth have sold over 50 million records worldwide, earned a GRAMMY® Award and 12 nominations, and released era-defining albums including Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, Rust in Peace, and Countdown to Extinction. Their most recent release, The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! (2022), debuted in the Top 3 on the Billboard 200 and scored a GRAMMY® nomination for “Best Metal Performance.”

Alongside their musical impact, Megadeth have built a presence in other industries, from the À Tout Le Monde and Saison 13 craft beers (selling over 15 million pints) to Mustaine’s House of Mustaine wine brand.

With one final album and a farewell tour on the horizon, Megadeth are preparing to close their monumental career on their own terms—loud, fast, and unforgettable.
