After turning heads with their debut EP You Shine The Sun — a sun-soaked blend of ‘70s country-rock warmth and power-pop sparkle — The Sons Of Guns are back with their new irresistibly feel-good single I Got It Right. Known for their knack for making fresh songs feel like instant old favourites, the Nice-based quintet have picked up admirers from Eagles of Death Metal’s Jesse Hughes to BBC Radio London’s Gary Crowley, and even found themselves sharing stages with Rick Astley and Joss Stone.

With I Got It Right pairing breezy harmonies and Wurlitzer charm with a message about getting love right when everything else goes wrong, the band are ready to ride their wave of festival triumphs into the next chapter. We caught up with frontman David Zincke to talk inspiration, slapstick duels with Death, and who’d make the bill for their dream festival.

1. Hey! Tell us about your new single I Got It Right and the inspiration behind it?

Hey! I think sometimes in long term relationships of any kind we can sometimes feel like we’re getting it all wrong, so we have to reduce it all to the basics. If there’s love at the foundation then that’s something to celebrate. It’s about that really.

2. The video for I Got It Right is good fun and feels like ’The Seventh Seal’ reimagined as slapstick comedy of errors - where did you get the idea from?

I didn’t know The Seventh Seal until this question after a quick google and I see what you mean! :)  it was originally an idea I had for a short film . I think we all have a relationship with death... I wanted to tell a story of becoming friends with death and finding purpose in life instead of fear .

3. Your debut EP ‘You Shine The Sun’ was a mix of uplifting 70s country-rock and pop - what bands influence your songwriting?

There’s a lot of influences on this EP, I think the main ones would be Crosby stills & Nash, The Eagles & The Beatles.

4. You’ve performed with Rick Astley and Joss Stone - how did this come about and what were they like?

The short answer would that they just came about through random small circumstances. We just happened to be in the same area of the world. They’re both genuine, humble, kind, very talented people and we loved em.

5. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

At this moment I’d love to work with Dan Auerbach or Beck. I’m a big fan of them.

6. You’re now based in Nice - what’s the music scene like?

The old town music scene is the reason we moved here. There's an opportunity to play live every night and that’s all we wanna do!

7. If you could create your dream line-up for a festival who would you have on the MainStage?

Beastie Boys

Beck

Bonnie Raitt

Dan Auerbach

The Beach Boys

Gomez

Kula Shaker

8. What’s next for you - will we get to see you play live in the UK any time soon?

Next for us is working on the new album and yeah! We’re coming to the UK around October and we can’t wait!

Thanks David- all the best for the future!
