Interview: Pistol Daisys Talk Music, Touring, and Making ‘Honey’

Glasgow-based alt-pop trio Pistol Daisys are carving out their own lane with a sound that blends disco sparkle, indie edge, and pop immediacy. Their new single “Honey,” paired with the darker B-side “Wolves,” highlights both their versatility and their knack for turning personal stories into bold, relatable anthems. With roots in Scotland’s vibrant music scene and influences ranging from Fleetwood Mac to ABBA, the band have already lit up festival stages like Belladrum and are set to take their high-energy performances across Europe later this year.
1. Hi! You’ve just released your new single ‘Honey’ - tell us about the creative process behind making the track
The creative process for Honey marked a fresh take on the way we have previously written our music. It started on Logic, where Belly came up with our baseline and we wrote around it. We then took it properly into the studio and created the track you hear today. The song is about being the bad guy in your relationship and absolutely owning it. We support women’s rights and wrongs, and to be honest, we mess up all the time, intentionally or not, it’s part of the human experience.
2. The B-side ‘Wolves’ feels like a slightly darker track but really showcases your vocals and mixes various genres of music - how did this track come about?
Our track Wolves is about flipping the concept of Honey on its head, and calling out the other party in a relationship for their wrongdoings. We have all been wronged in one way or another in previous relationships. Sometimes you should own your mistakes, sometimes you should get left out to the wolves.
3. You’ve grown up in Glasgow, how has the Scottish music scene influenced your songwriting?
Actually, while the group is based in Glasgow, we are actually a multicultural culmination! Belly moved to Scotland from Malaysia, and Lorna and Lewis are from Ayrshire and Falkirk areas respectively. For Belly, the Scottish music scene has given her a sense of freedom when it comes to writing, as for Lorna, she learned how to play music in trad pub sessions, so she brings a little bit of that into the music.
4. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?
The Daisys absolutely love Daft Punk, they often soundtrack our drives when we’re on tour, so we’d love an opportunity to work with them one day!
5. What do you love most about performing and what’s been the best venue or festival you’ve played?
I think our favourite festival so far has been Belladrum, it’s the biggest stage we’ve played so far and we had an absolutely fantastic time, sore legs and sun burn aside! Music is our passion so getting to play things we’ve written and hearing people singing it back to us is an incredible privilege that we are so grateful for.
6. Who are your main musical inspirations?
It differs for all of us but our main ones are Fleetwood Mac, Chic, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles and ABBA.
7. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your professional or personal lives?
We’ve all had our fair-share of hardships, but we like to channel it into our music. One of the hardest things we’ve had to overcome as a band is financing our project. Touring is an expensive thing to do but luckily, we have some of the best fans in the world, who buy our merchandise and have generously donated money to help us make our dreams a reality.
8. You’ve got some live dates around Europe lined up for October and November- what would you like to achieve by the end of this year?
By the end of this year we’d like to say that we have put our all into every performance and given each audience member an amazing show that they will remember for years to come! We’d also love to sell out our headline show at the end of the year at SWG3 Poetry club (wink-wink-nudge-nudge)!
Thanks, Pistol Daisys — all the best for the future!
