Carpenter Brut has released his new single “The Misfits The Rebels,” the latest track taken from his forthcoming album Leather Temple, due out February 27 via No Quarter Prod and Virgin Records.

The song is the second single from Leather Temple and follows the release of the title track late last year. The new album marks the third and final chapter in Carpenter Brut’s Leather trilogy, continuing the cinematic narrative that has defined the French synthwave artist’s work since 2018.

Set in the year 2077, Leather Temple unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by nuclear fallout. Humanity survives under the control of a transhuman elite known as the Overlords, while the rest of the population struggles to endure among the ruins. At the center of the story is Midwichpolis, a neon-lit capital ruled by the tyrant Iron Tusk, whose obsession with immortality fuels his brutal regime.

“The Misfits The Rebels” focuses on the rise of the Horde, a rebel scavenger collective led by Lita Connor. Alongside the long-standing Leather anti-hero Bret Halford, also known as Leather Teeth, the group launches a series of attacks against the City of Light before escaping through its streets on motorcycles under heavy fire from security forces. The accompanying video brings this high-speed sequence to life.

Musically, the track blends drum and bass rhythms, sharp electro synths, and heavy metal riffs. It is fast-paced and propulsive, reflecting the tension and momentum of the story’s chase sequence while leaning into a darker, more dystopian cyberpunk aesthetic than earlier releases in the series.

The album continues the narrative of Bret Halford, who is discovered frozen in the ruins of the Midwichslums decades after the apocalypse. Revived and upgraded with advanced technology, he becomes half man and half machine, transformed by Lita Connor into a weapon against the ruling regime. Each track on Leather Temple functions as a scene within this larger story, combining cinematic scope with direct, hard-hitting production.

The Leather series began with 2018’s Leather Teeth, which drew heavily on 1980s glam rock influences, followed by 2022’s Leather Terror, a darker slasher-inspired installment. Leather Temple brings the trilogy to a close with a more orchestral yet urgent sound, rooted in a saturated 1990s electro atmosphere driven by distorted layers and relentless beats.
