Review: Tyler Braden’s “Dry County” Is a Gentle Unraveling of Heartbreak and Habit

His latest release, “Dry County,” arrives today as the first taste of that yet to be announced project. Written alongside Lalo Guzman, Laura Veltz, and Allison Veltz Cruz, the song leans into heartbreak and self awareness, capturing the familiar push and pull between healing and habit. It is a love lost story told from the barstool, where sobriety feels like the answer but rarely lasts long enough to stick.
Musically, “Dry County” opens with a smooth slide guitar riff that immediately sets a reflective tone. The track stays deliberately stripped back through its early moments, supported by understated guitar work and soft female backing vocals that add emotional depth without overpowering the lead. About a third of the way in, gentle percussion enters the mix, subtly lifting the song while preserving its intimate feel. The restraint works in Braden’s favor, allowing the lyrics to take center stage as he sings about circular nights, whiskey fueled memories, and the struggle to let go.
As the chorus unfolds, the song’s hook hits with quiet honesty rather than bombast. Lines about drinking, thinking, calling, and repeating paint a vivid picture of heartbreak that feels lived in and unpolished. It is a reminder of Braden’s strength as a storyteller, balancing country tradition with a rock edged delivery that feels built for both headphones and arenas.
Reflecting on the release, this writer notes, “Dry County feels like Tyler Braden at his most exposed, letting the silence between the notes do as much talking as the lyrics themselves.”
The single lands just as Braden kicks off his US Devil and a Prayer Tour. The tour launches tonight in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before heading to Indianapolis, Indiana to close out the opening weekend. The run takes its name from his 2025 debut album, devil and a prayer, a 19 track release that showcased his blend of raw emotion and high energy sound. The album marked a major milestone, further cementing Braden’s reputation as a powerful live performer and a rising force in modern country music.
Beyond the US dates, Braden is also set to return overseas in March, bringing his show back to European audiences as part of the Country to Country Festival. He will perform on the main stage across multiple cities, including London, Belfast, Glasgow, Rotterdam, and Berlin, with an additional headline stop in Cologne.
UK and EU tour dates include Rotterdam on March 6, Berlin on March 7, Cologne on March 10, Glasgow on March 13, London on March 14, and Belfast on March 15.
With more than 915 million global streams and over 10 million weekly listeners, the Alabama native continues to build on a career rooted in grit and persistence. From playing four hour cover sets as a teenager in Slapout to balancing firefighting shifts with songwriting, Braden’s journey feeds directly into the authenticity of his music. As “Dry County” proves, his next chapter is shaping up to be one of his most compelling yet.
