Demi Lovato’s “Low Rise Jeans”: A Smooth, Atmospheric and Subtle Evolution in Sound

Demi Lovato has released a new song called Low Rise Jeans. The first thing that strikes me in this song is the background melody, probably being played on a xylophone or some sort of cowbell synth patch. All the sounds go really well with Demi’s vocals, so big kudos to the producer of this track, Zhone.

I have not listened to a lot of Demi before, but I will say this song is a promising introduction to her music for me. The song is somewhat sensual and super catchy. I feel like this song just floats on by. It feels very easy to digest, and I could see it being played almost anywhere where some background music is much needed. The bridge section that hits towards the end of the song is really nice. I get to hear a different register of Demi’s vocals, and she sounds great, whether it be in the middle of her range or when she really belts out. The whole track sounds very tasteful.

Doing some research, it seems that Demi has gone through quite a big evolution in her career. She started with more pop-rock and ballad-heavy songs like Skyscraper, before transitioning into more experimental pop and R&B-influenced material. This song sort of sits somewhere in between those eras. A lot of listeners respond differently to these shifts in her sound, but I am glad that she is constantly exploring what feels right for her artistically.

What stands out here is how confident the track feels in its restraint. It does not try to explode into a huge chorus or overpower the listener; instead, it leans into mood and atmosphere, which makes it work especially well in casual, background listening settings. It is not doing anything overly experimental, but that is not really the point either.

Overall, Low Rise Jeans is a smooth and well-produced track that grows more enjoyable the more you sit with it. It might not demand attention, but it definitely earns it in a subtle way. Go and give this new track a spin.
