Nothing But Thieves Return to Their Roots With the Chaotic, Unifying Anthem Stray Dogs

Nothing But Thieves are heading back to their roots with Stray Dogs, the explosive title track from their upcoming fifth studio album. Following the polished, futuristic world of 2023's Dead Club City, the band have swapped precision for instinct, embracing a rawer, more chaotic sound built around energy, connection and the thrill of playing together.

Released as a powerful statement of intent, Stray Dogs is a track built around chaos, intensity and belonging. From its haunting opening call through to its huge, crashing finale, the song feels designed for the live stage, capturing the feeling of thousands of voices becoming one.

Rather than chasing the precise, high-gloss production of their previous record, Nothing But Thieves have embraced a looser and more organic approach. Recorded at Angelic Studios, the same location where the band created their debut album, the track reflects a return to the foundations of who they are as a group.

The result is a song that feels less like a reinvention and more like a reconnection. The guitars hit harder, the drums feel more immediate and Conor Mason's commanding vocals cut through with a renewed sense of urgency.

The band say Stray Dogs represents the positive side of community and togetherness, exploring the idea of finding your people in a world that can often feel divided.

"We've spent a long time writing about the negative aspects of pack mentality, tribalism and division. This song is the converse. Stray Dogs is about finding your people," the band explain.

That idea runs throughout the track's accompanying visualiser, created by acclaimed British visual artist Weirdcore, whose previous collaborations include work with artists such as Aphex Twin and Thom Yorke. Mixing animation with distorted footage of real fans, the visual captures the album's central theme of connection and transforms the band's audience into the "pack" at the heart of the song.

Written during an intense five-month creative period, Stray Dogs became the foundation for the wider album, with Nothing But Thieves building a record around shared experiences, identity and the communities that form around music.

The band's decision to return to a more instinctive approach feels significant. After creating an ambitious conceptual world with Dead Club City, which earned them their first UK Number One album, Stray Dogs represents a different kind of confidence. It is not about looking backwards, but about reconnecting with the spirit that brought them together in the first place.

With more than a decade of touring, billions of streams and a dedicated global fanbase behind them, Nothing But Thieves have built a reputation for evolving without losing their identity. Stray Dogs suggests their next era will be their most direct and communal yet.

Stray Dogs sees Nothing But Thieves trade polished perfection for raw emotion, delivering a powerful reminder that music is at its strongest when people come together.

The full album Stray Dogs arrives on 25th September via RCA/Sony Music, with the band set to embark on their biggest headline tour to date in 2027, including major UK dates at The O2 in London and Co-op Live in Manchester.
