Jordan Rakei has released a new song called "Paradise", and I absolutely love the drums on this track.

They are probably the first thing I noticed. The hits feel big and warm without sounding overly processed, and then these beautiful keyboard sounds sit underneath everything. There is something about the combination of drums, bass and soft keys that I am always a sucker for in soul music.

Jordan's vocals sound fantastic as well. He has this really smooth tone, but there is still enough texture in his voice that everything feels very natural. Sometimes technically amazing singers can almost sound too perfect to me, but Jordan never really falls into that trap.

The song is about looking back on childhood, particularly his relationship with his brothers. He has spoken about how those years could be chaotic at times, but the track focuses on the memories and the bond they shared.

I really like how the production fits that feeling. It sounds warm and nostalgic without becoming overly sentimental. The keyboards almost feel like they are floating in the background while the rhythm section keeps everything moving forward.

This song reminds me slightly of the feeling I get from D'Angelo or some BLK ODYSSY tracks. They are not exactly the same style of music, but they create a similar atmosphere for me. It is that combination of soul, groove and musicians actually leaving space for each other.

Doing some research, Jordan recorded his upcoming album A Safe Place To Be Wild while serving as an Artist in Residence at Abbey Road Studios. That sounds like a pretty incredible place to make this kind of music. You can really hear how much attention has gone into the actual playing and arrangement.

There is also something slightly sad underneath "Paradise". Looking back on childhood is always strange because you remember moments that felt completely normal at the time, and then years later they suddenly mean everything.

This is a beautiful, warm track with some fantastic playing throughout. Perfect for a quiet drive or just sitting around doing absolutely nothing for a while.
