Justin Bieber’s “Daisies” Is a Lesson in Melody, Simplicity, and the Power of Pop Music

On July 11th, Justin Bieber released his latest album, Swag. I wanted to share a quick appreciation for the track “Daisies” — a song that had me wanting to sing along and learn the melody faster than almost anything I’ve heard.
I’m pretty sure Mk.gee is playing the incredibly catchy rhythm guitar that opens the track — at least, it sounds like him. The rest of the song is quite simple: just a few great musicians doing their thing. Justin’s vocals are excellent — as they've been since Baby. The drums feel both polished and raw — well-mixed but played with a punky edge. And Justin’s delivery is especially soulful here.
“Daisies” is a perfect love song. For me, it never veers into cheesy. As for the recent drama surrounding Bieber — I honestly have no clue. I haven’t followed any of it. I’m here purely for the music. Clearly, the song is about a relationship, maybe even something current, but again: music first. I give a lot of praise to Justin, but it’s hard not to. His sense of melody is wild — so natural, so smooth.
When I listen closely, I can hear threads of other pop artists in his performance, but that’s part of what defines pop: songs that echo each other just enough to be familiar, but still bring something new. Right now, it feels like Bieber is at the center of that. His melodies and vocal choices are a kind of north star for where pop is heading. If you haven’t already, go give “Daisies” a spin.
