Review: Glass Animals Sink Their Teeth into Vampire Bat

Glass Animals have released a new song called “Vampire Bat.” I’m always eager to hear what this band puts out. They tend to change up their sound quite often, and they consistently display incredible songwriting skills. Let’s dive into what’s going on with Vampire Bat!
Vampire Bat sounds sweet, sugary, and intimate—almost as if it’s right next to the listener. The band is known for their use of psychedelic textures and bittersweet lyrics, always striking a fine balance between vibe and melancholy. They’ve definitely carved out their own sound. I think Vampire Bat is the most rap-influenced track I’ve heard from Glass Animals so far—at least in one of the verses.
This release also marks the five-year anniversary of Glass Animals’ breakthrough album Dreamland. That record really put them on the map, so it’s great to see they’ve kept the spirit alive for half a decade. Like most of their songs, Vampire Bat is extremely catchy. There’s something about Dave Bayley’s voice—the way he shapes his melodies and phrases his words—that puts you in a trance. I’m not sure whether to call Glass Animals indie rock, indie pop, or something else entirely, but I guess it doesn’t matter. If you’re looking for a band with a truly unique sound, Glass Animals is a great choice.
The track was written by Bayley and Rob Bisel. Glass Animals have been releasing music fairly frequently in recent times, and Vampire Bat fits right into their current discography. Dave Bayley’s vocals are absolutely on point here. Go give this song a spin!
