Review: A Little More: Ed Sheeran’s R&B-Tinged Heartbreaker

Ed Sheeran hardly needs an introduction, but he’s just released a new track called “A Little More.” It’s super catchy. I think I’ve heard most of Ed Sheeran’s songs, and this might be the most soul/R&B-influenced one yet. I’m sure he’s collaborated with R&B artists before, but this is all his own work.

On production, we have Blake Slatkin, Cirkut, and Ed himself. He continues to be an artist who paves the way for others in pop. I have to say—looking at Justin Bieber’s latest album alongside this release—I’m genuinely excited about where pop music is heading right now.

I love hearing Ed use his voice the way he does here. He stretches across his entire range, from high falsetto to a powerful, soulful chorus in his middle register. Ed Sheeran has always been a classic singer-songwriter—working with bare essentials and showing off his skill as a musician. Sometimes there’s nothing more satisfying than a well-written acoustic track. It feels organic and honest, and I get the sense Ed genuinely loves this song—or at least loved it when he first came up with the idea. Many artists, Ed included, have admitted they start to dislike their own songs after playing them too often, which is totally normal.

The track features drums, back-beat Rhodes, guitars, horns, and subtle drones in the background. In the chorus, A Little More declares: “I used to love you, but every day I hate you just a little more.” I’m not entirely sure of the full story here, but it seems to be about distancing yourself from someone you’ve lost all hope of liking again. I usually focus on the music first, but these lyrics stand out—they feel like they’re written about something that truly matters to the writers.

Go give Ed Sheeran’s latest track a spin.
