The Kid Laroi’s A COLD PLAY: A Polished Blend of Vulnerability and Vibes

The Kid Laroi has dropped a new track called “A COLD PLAY.” I haven’t really listened to him before, but after browsing through his top five most played, I realized I actually recognize most of those songs. I guess there’s a time and place for everything. Right away, A COLD PLAY feels relaxed, ethereal, and soothing to the ear.
The Coldplay references are obvious. In the chorus, Laroi repeats “fix you” and “miss you,” tying them to themes of loss and longing. He drives it home with the line, “it’s really hard to accept the fact that I can’t fix you.” I usually don’t pay much attention to the backstory behind lyrics, but for listeners who do, there’s a lot to unpack here. Most fans believe the track is about his breakup with Tate McRae in July 2025. To me, it sounds like Laroi reflecting on the pain of letting go and the weight of lingering attachments. The song follows his single “SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW”—and both are already shaping up to be hits.
Production-wise, the track is clean and polished. The synths feel sidechained to the drums, and the whole mix seems sidechained to the vocals. (If you’re not familiar, sidechaining is a technique where one sound automatically ducks in volume to make room for another—commonly used to keep vocals sitting clearly above everything else.) The effect works seamlessly here, showing off the expertise behind the track. Not surprising, since it was produced by KBeaZy.
As for the instrumentation, the drums definitely lean into Trap territory—maybe a little beefier than usual, but still Trap at heart. The background synths give it a subtle retro vibe, almost reminiscent of something the band Men I Trust would use. If I had to pin down the sound, I’d call it a blend of 21 Savage, Post Malone, and Men I Trust. That’s the closest I can get. Either way, it’s worth a spin—go check it out for yourself.
